Christ, I just read through some user reviews, and it seems the majority had a ton of problems with it.

With this is mind, I'm seriously reconsidering getting it for my new system...

Can anyone confirm/deny if these CD-ROMs are as bad as everyone seems to be saying?!

Mine would not read 2/3 of the disks I put in it,was unacceptably loud and slow, with that constant clicking at start-up,well.. I put up with it for two weeks and got rid of it.

considering it does very slow DAE (x4) I got rid of it in a week. I think ceative does a lousy job when it comes to cdroms (OEM). I got an ASUS 40x and it flies (DAE x17). I heard their 50x is good too but I prefer the 40x as its PCAV (50x is CAV) and it's not as loud.

From my experience, All Creative cd-roms are a load of bollucs. They can't read many burnt cd's, they are loud, they are slow to spin up, and it looks like they are only single speed cd-roms, because when they start having problems reading a cd, instead of spinning to the right speed of the cd, you just hear them revving over and over.

Hi ,

We were using 52x at the office to build new systems. We stopped buying them as they are real crappy. Noise, don't read burns well, they don't stop spinning. We are now using LG's haven't had a problem yet.
I have a 48x at home and I hate it, everytime I put a burn in, sounds like the spinning cycle of my washing machine.
I will not buy creative cd 's again, but I really like my SB live.
Ciao Liam

Hmm nevermind, it seem like cdrom perform poorly when set as Master on secondary port where if you have a master harddrive and set it as slave chained on the same cable the these symtom of slow access and pausing have disappear.
