I have some basic networking questions. I am new to that area and have no idea where to begin except by asking questions.

I want to network two computers, a win 98 and win 95 system to share information off the 98 machine. I also want to link to a third machine only to get cable internet connection.

I suppose I need a NIC with two connections?

What brand and specs of NICs are the best?

Are there any other pieces of hardware I need except cabling and a hub?

What brand of hub is the best?

Thanks

If you use a computer to share the Internet it will need to NICs.

If you buy a broadband router then you won't need the two NICs in one computer. There are many advantages to this over a PC sharing the Internet conenction.

Best brands? I like Intels and 3COMs. Other brands may work fine too.

Specs -> at least get 10/100 cards for the connection flexibility.

Hubs -> you could get the broadband router with ~4 ports built in then you wouldn't need another hub/switch. For just a hub/switch...I prefer CISCO or 3COM but others often work just fine.
