Sims and sound in XP

I have just installed XP Pro and am having trouble with the Sims. It seems that when I play, the sound becomes distorted and echoey. Is anyone having the same problem? I was wondering if anyone had a solution. I thought that maybe the new drivers for the SBLive! 5.1 that will come out the end of the month would help.
