What do you guys think is the Best download manager & why?

Some of you might be inclined to say Go!Zilla, but I've tried it and it sucks. It's so sensitive to browser surfing simulataneously, that it can "pause" the download, and you have to manually pick up where it left off. Does anyone else get that?

My pick goes with GetRight, because it can ping, and it isn't sensitive to browser surfing simulataneously, and for a shareware product, it doesn't bug me that much to buy it.

What do you guys think about what I've said or products I didn't discuss?

Hi ablang

Well, GetRight has Aureate/Radiate spyware if that's a concern for you, as does Go!Zilla.

If you are concerned about spyware, Steve Gibson's site has a list of programs that implement it: http://grc.com/optout.htm

For a download program, look at mike L's post in this thread:

i used to use gozilla, netzip downloader or gozilla...
now i use nothing...but being able to hit peaks of 830k/s on downloads makes me lazy.

Maybe it's not really a d/l mgr, but Download accelerator+ (http://www.speedbit.com) is really cool if you have a decent connection. Opens 4 ports and d/l's from them simultaneously.

I prefer GgetRight because of pings, segmenting, and the way it shows me the overall speed.

My satellite seems to have each connection limited at 20kb/sec so when I open up getright and segment the file it may shoot up to 80kb/sec. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I like Download Demon... Perhaps not as exotic as some of the aforementioned, but it works pour moi.

I also like Download Accelerator, but since I got my DSL hookup, I don't have much need for it. Its free adware, which I'm not crazy about.

GETRIGHT!!! I do believe this is the best program. Segmented downloading, automatic retry, pinging, click monitoring, and so on. Of course, I've never tried the others for myself, then again, I've never had the need to.

I dont use one now that I'm on cable but I used to use Smartdownload although it may only work with Netscape, not sure. It's small, simple and it worked well for me. It'll be at netscape's site.

Tried Go!zilla. It was horrible, especially interface. Tried Getright. A bit better, but "too smart", as usually exactly when you don't want it to be.

Now I use exclusively ReGet (http://www.reget.com) . Very clean interface, shows comlete connection logs if you want, regulates download speed, resumes broken downloads 100% of the time etc. etc. Love it. Give it a try.

Use ********right.com (http://********right.com)
Why? Because it works, it's helped me hundreds of times!

GetRight now also contains spyware (didn't used to, but does now)

Also, besides OptOut, and since this thread is older and was referenced to (thanks, cyclone2) another good spyware scanner/ridder is AdAware at http://www.lavasoft.de/

Under some conditions IE5.01 will resume broken d/ls (you can't reboot or it'll lose it).

I dont use any because they lock up your computer and they slow down your download overall. Using getright actually make you more lazy because you can have everyfiles queued for download. I decided to remove it off my computer for good since it does nothing more just resuming broken file that with a highspeed transfer most people don't need it. and if file is too large to download, then don't because it going to take forever so I dont bother. as for Godzilla, stay away 100 feet. This thing write to your disk every 1K bytes! very annoying.

Download Accelerator v 4.0

1. No spyware
2. has a scheduler
3. enhanced for dsl/cable

If you have cable or DSL you download at ridiculously fast speeds. I was getting 1.4 megabits on downloads but using DAP 4 now I get 3 to 4 megabits !!!!!!
