Has anyone done any mobo replacement using a standard mobo into a Pavilion case? Don't suggest a new case.....as customer likes the cute little Pavilion case..... I know....the Power Supply is kind of lowend.... I am just looking for straight....switch.. HP does not answer any e-mails sent to them, so they are of no use.... Any help appreciated....

MicroATX form factor might work.

As for the customer liking the cute case . . . computer werent meant to look cute, they were meant to process data.

Silly people . .think computers are appliances, like toasters or refridgerators.

We havent gotten to that point yet.

Pavillion's come with a variety of different sizes and styles of cases, many of which have some oddities like unusual front panel connectors, top mounted audio connectors, nonstandard backplanes, etc. This may necessitate some significant case modifications. You have also correctly assumed that the power supply will be a limiting factor. You won't have enough power, or enough cooling capacity to run an AMD processor, you would probably be limited to a Celeron or PIII.

I thought about upgrading my old Pavillion a while back, but decided it just wasn't worth the effort. I ended up giving the computer away to my uncle, and starting over from scratch.

By the way, you can find an almost unlimited number of case styles if you do a search - including ones that look very similar to Pavillion cases. I'm sure you could find one that would satisfy your customer.

Sorry I can't be of more help. If you really want to try this upgrade, you might want to post to an HP newsgroup on usenet - you might have a better chance of finding someone who has tried this.
