ok now that all you moderators are in here i would like to suggest a new forum for this BB. as we all know there are many many programmers out there (like myself) and we cant find anyone to talk to. i am suggesting opening a new forum for programmers to talk about their projects, programming languages they use, etc...

this would be VERY helpful to all of us im sure!

Well I dont know as Earthweb has www.codeguru.com (http://www.codeguru.com) and it has a forum too http://codeguru.earthweb.com/bbs/wt/wwwthreads.pl so it might be seen as redundant? But I'm sure Scott/Joel/Socalgal and others will put their 2 bits in as well. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

i jsut checked that site and they have the programming sections devided up into seperate languages which is only visual c++ related. no other languages are listed. a good forum that gets alot of hits like this one would be ideal for a General Programming forum where we can discuss ALL types of languages, not jsut visual c++ like codeguru

I agree, I would really like to see Sysopt have a programming forum, even if the site itself is primarily hardware-centric. However if we can have a Games forum then why not programming? http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Thanks for your help UKlee. maybe if we can get enough people in this thread we can get this done and help all the programmers out there!

I agree too, i'd like a place where I can ask HTML questions when I get stuck http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif !!!

Yes Snuffy i totally agree. though it didnt come to mind at first when i mentioned "programming", now it makes sense. HTML too is a VERY popular programming language but isnt considered really to be an actual "programming language," if you know what i mean. i could use some help there myself!

I have personally answered all degrees of programming questions in Tech Support, Gen Tech Disc, Brainstorming (most appropriate) and even community. So iffin you have programming questions, fire away.

I would support a programming section. Just realize what a large subject area you are addressing.

I also sound like my Dad.....

Hi Nuclear, I am back again to reaffirm my support for the idea of a Programming forum. I am on the first year of a degree programming course and I would find one very useful and I'd be willing to contribute regularly to the forum.

So how's about it moderators?? http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Maybe he or, the OBG [Other Big Guy <g>] - Joel, will pop in and let us know...

Unfortunately, this isn't something likely to ever happen here. Simply stated Earthweb management directs us in the paths we are to take. Since there are several programming web sites (codeguru.com and developer.com are the two off the top of my head) at Earthweb, it is their responsibility and not ours to field and support programming questions and needs.

I would suggest that if you want to see changes to those sites to make it more comfortable for yourselves, email the site mananger/editor at that site.

In the meantime, certainly you are welcome to ask programming questions in the General Tech, Brainstorming, or any other appropriate forum. However, don't expect an official programming section here at SysOpt. Sorry.

Ho hum... it was worth a try, eh Nuclear? http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Although I can appreciate that this is a hardware-based site...

I wasn't actually aware of the existence of those two EartWeb sites until they were pointed out in this thread... perhaps I'll point my browser in that direction sometime.
