Files that I have deleted keep reappearing on my desktop.I have deleted them and deleted them from the recycle bin. It seems that everytime I restart the computer they are there again.

1. text file
2. JPEG file

OS - Win 2000 Professional

Are they files that you put there, or are they something else? The only time I've seen reappearing objects it's been a program that automatically reloads desktop shortcuts, etc. I don't use Win2000 myself, but I know Win98/ME has a built-in utility you can use to check your Startup folder, win.ini, registry, etc. for programs loading at startup. If not, you can check those places manually to try to find what's causing it.

Another possibility is a virus. Any time something odd starts happening on my system, I make sure I have the latest antivirus updates and do a full system check.

They are files that I put there. It only happens to these particular files?

I have Norton V7.01 corporate editon.

I just installed win2000 professional a month ago, have had almost no problems till this.Been keeping a log of any problems in a notepad folder.

Ok, you have a text file and jpg reappearing everytime you boot. What are these files names? and are they files or shortcuts?

Can you open files and see what they contain?

When all else fails, create batch file that deletes these files and place in startup folder. Then if files still exist, something is occuring in startup after batch file to create these files and more research needs to be done.

These are files that I saved to the desktop.

JPEG - Norther Lights, downloaded from internet to desktop.Opens with internet explorer.
Text - Saved from email from site server.
Opens with notepad.

I can open the files with no problems.

I am currently to scan the files with norton but I am getting no results. The computer appears to be doing something?
