Hello All
I have a simple question(I hope).
I have a Amptron (PCCHIPS) 586LMR mobo with a 500MHz K6-2.
The CPU has a 128K Cache
The Motherboard can handle up to 1 Gig of SDRAM and has a 1 Mg
L2 Cache.
My question is how much RAM is too much?
Is 512 Mg of RAM O.K.? Or is that a little extreme.

Cheers, pbinpb

512mb should be fine for everything. I don't know much about the MVP3, but it should be able to handle 512mb.

Thanks Nighthawk,
I think I`m gonna need 512 Mg.
The chip is a SiS540, the modem uses 16Mg, and I want to use
an NVidia TNT2 64 PCI card. It has 32Mg onboard, but can use up
to 128Mg of main memory. I was hoping to o/c the CPU and the
video card.
Thanks again.

PCI cards don't use system memory for textures, AGP cards do.

If you were planning to go out and buy that card, I HIGHLY suggest getting something like a Geforce2 MX instead. A TNT2 M64 isn't good for current games, and I doubt it's very overclockable.

Sorry for the delayed response.
Our son crashed our computer.
Had to format and install 5 times to finally get a clean install.
Last time we buy an HP product.

Anyway, I already have an NVidia TNT2 64Mg PCI video card.
I hope to install it in an old AT case that I`m upgrading.
New baby AT board, CPU, and this video card, and it DOES
allow up to 128MB RAM to be used for frames.
Found a website for TNT2/Geforce2 O/C ing ahd tweaks.
Lots of good info.

I have a MVP3 chipset EPOX G5 with 2megs cache. It will only support 384m ram.
