Abit KT7Raid
New processor 1gig athlon socket
Installed new processor
Cleared cmos
Keeps defaulting to 750 mhz
Changed multiplier setting in bios and still defaults to 750
Ran Sandra Sandra says 750
Looked at chip says 1gig
I know my board will not support the 266 but shouldn't it
recognize that is is a 1gig processor.
Do I need to upgrade my bios. Soft Menu
Thanks for your Help!

I'm not 100% sure but I would clear the cmos again .....This time if you didn't do it the first time remove the ac for the case....clear it once -in the cleared position -then do it once again. Before you turn it back on , verify any switches that you have on that board. Hope it helps:D Good Luck

Did you unlock the multiplier on the CPU? Don't think you can adjust multiplier without unlocking it first. Odd how it's not autodetecting a 1 Ghz though... for help on unlocking an Athlon, scroll to the bottom of sysopt.com's main page.

Mainboards do not recognize speed grades. The speed grade is created by combination of bus speed (your choice and/or mainboard limitation) and internal multiplier (hardcoded for Athlons).
So if you have a 1000/133 Athlon there, this one runs a 7.5x multiplier, and that's why you end up at 750 MHz on a 100-MHz-only board.

Thanks Everyone for your help.
Peter I think your RIGHT!!!!!!!!!
My kids need another computer so I will just buy another motherboard. This will be easy to justify to the Wife. :)
Thanks again

Seriously though, you will need to set the CPU operating speed to the 1000 (10x100) setting. Or do User define and set the Multiplier Factor to 10 and the CPU FSB/PCI Clock to 100/33. Unless it's a 1000/133 CPU as noted by Peter. Then you will need to unlock it (connect the L1 bridges) to make multiplier changes. :D

Had the same difficulty with a 1 gig Athlon on a PC-Chips (ugh) board, until I realized the mobo recognizes the speed by multiplier and FSB speed. In this case, I just changed it to 133 and life was grand.
