I got ambitious this weekend and rounded my cables. I only grazed the article here, so I didn't catch which tape I'm supposed to use. Well, I used duct tape (it was that or scotch tape). Is that okay? Or is it going to melt?

Shouldn't be a problem. It is designed to be csed in attics where 140 F is not unusual. If your comp. is hotter than that I think duct tape is the least of your worries. barry

I agree with barry, the only thing is the glue may leach out making the whole thing tacky, dont know which tape wont, all the electrical tape I have used does it, may be better to use cable ties (zippies) or even lace it with twine, like they (I) did it in the old days.

I used strips and black tape... seems to be holding quite nicely.

The cheapiest place to get the spiral wrap is the junk yard! I read the article when it was first published, got in the car and went to the junk yard. I asked the guy how much? He said get what ya need and give me a buck! I grabbed about 10-12 feet of the cleaniest I could find give the dude a buck and bought him a coke, we were both happy! Wal Mart had the tie-wraps for $1.79 for 50.

For under three bucks, I cleaned up my box, increased air flow, and dropped the temp a degree or twoooooooo!

Hey Szech, in the article I recommended against using tape of any kind because I found it hard to work with, and it decreased the flexibility of the cables in most cases.

You can certainly use it if you wish. Duct tape might be a little harder to work with than some others because it is so darn sticky, but its not an error on your part necessarily for using it either.

As with anything else, and as others have demonstrated here, there are a bizillion ways to "get the job done"......some better than others, but that all depends on your perspective I guess. I'm a big proponent of the end result, with the methods used to get there (more often than not) less significant than the outcome.

Congrats on your cable rounding effort http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
