If you had a choice on any brand of hard drive without considering price what would be your HD of choice? I have heard that Seagate and IBM are one of the better brands but then I also have heard people on here recommend Maxtor and Western Digital. Personally i have heard nothing but bad things about Western Digital. Any input would be breat. Also you talk about HD that I have not mentioned. I have always believe you get what you pay for but I don't need the top of the line but i don't mind paying extra for the middle of the pack brands.

I've never used a Western Digital larger than 8.4 so I don't know how their larger drives are, but I like them for 1 reason. If it dies I know I can have a new one in my hands a few days later and still have my old drive to transfer data from. They are probably the easiest RMA department I have ever worked with. This means a lot since no matter what brand you get they are still a moving component and sometimes just die.

From what I can tell and this is just my opion. Every manufactuer makes a bad model from time to time. This can happen during manufacturing, company being bought out, or maybe the need to make a drive for the low end market place (cheap). So I think they all get bad reviews from time to time. So I would look at Brand and then the model.
