i just bought a computer and it came with Windows ME. i was using win98se on my other computer and i loved it. never gave me any problems. ME is ok. but i rather have 98 on it. Would it be wise to go back to 98 or stick with ME. (plus i have a 20$ coupon to upgrade to XP when it comes out.) Or should i wait for XP and go with that one.

I think I would just wait for XP to come out... For the most part Me runs alot better than 98. Especailly for gaming!

As GroundZero3 says there are plenty of threads around on this very subject. 98SE is excellent, though and consensus is its far more stable than ME. So, I'd say: 2K,98SE,ME in that order. But wait for XP. Its very stable but you need RAM, lots of it, for it to run. Else it walks!!

If ME came preloaded, it will run as well or better than if you wipe it clean and install 98se, IMHO. If your system is pretty new, it should be good to go for XP, but keep your 98se system around for older apps and games.

I have to say that Win98 seems to be the best for gaming. I had ME on my PC (PII450, 384mb) and it skipped MP3s while browsing the web. Also it was not very stable and hogged resources. Now I have a dual-boot, Win98 and Win2K, well as we all know Win2K is way more stable and you can actually leave it running for weeks at a time. However I've found Win98 performs better with games + is backwards compatible with games that Win2K/NT isn't.
But any preloaded system sucks, IMHO. Reloading is alway the first thing I'd do.

I agree totally. Just today I tried running one of my newer games under Win2K and it was just atrocious, but the same game works just great under win98SE for the most part. On the other hand, I much prefer Win2K for productivity type apps, or for transfering large amounts of data from one HDD to another. That type of thing is just so much faster, easier, and smoother on Win2K.
On a side note, WinME also has more backward compatibility issues than 98 does.
