Here's one.
Assumimg one takes all safety, static precautions, etc.
Does anyone think it is possible to kill a motherboard by putting in a pc133 ram - 256mb dimm.
We have various pcchip motherboards at work, which I was delegated to upgrade with more memory. Since many of them had both Simm and Dimm slots it seemed easiest - and cheapest to throw in a 256mb dimm.
After install, and reboot, nothing. Power OK; Hard drive goes - nothing on screen .
"Up to now, OK...so it doesn't work."
I pulled out the dimms, put back the one 32Mb dimm that was there, or the 2 16mb simms, and on reboot - nothing.
One mother board had only 2 dimm slots, no simms, but I killed that one too.!!
Now none of them work, with or without ram.
Help!!?
Did try to change battery in one - just in case....

I have one mobo ( MVP3) that has simm & dimm slot's, and it can't take 256 dimm's, only 128 Mb. Are You sure Your's are not having this problem ? My mobo behaved just like that when I tried to put 256 in it.

Chances are that you failed to seat the DIMMs correctly. Especially PC-Chips has been using almost ridiculously tight DIMM slots. Put something underneath the board to support it, then push HARD until you hear a crackling noise indicating that the contact springs gave way.
