Hi,
I just recently brought a ECS K7S5A and want to install it with a bios with FSB adjustments, I've downloaded the Flash utility and the .rom componate, and amtempted to flash with the command line at a:\:-

amifdx.exe_x.rom

Where x corresponds with version info but I'll get an error message:

Winbondx flash componate not found.

And the falsh process whould stop and I whould be brought back to Dos. What gives?

I do not know if your bios flash is different from most other boards. I have not found any differences on boards I have worked on.

1::Make your self a boot disk, remove the files that do not absolutely have to be there to allow the system to boot. IE::doublespace etc.

2::Download the bios file, usually has to be unzipped. Copy all the files "after unzipping" to the floppy. Be sure to write down the exact name of the bios.bin file.

3::Bootup on this floppy, enter awdflash (I am asuming you have an award bios) If your bios is not award type in the name of the update engine.

4::At the prompt asking what file you wish to flash to. place the exact name you have written down for the name of the .bin file, go ahead and place the .bin after the bios file name.

5::Press enter, do not distrub anything until you get the message the bios has sucessfully been flashed. Turn off the power now, or press (a certain key to accept) remove the floppy disk.

6::when the sytems enters bios, press the del key to enter bios and check your settings, change whatever you need to get your system running best. Go to exit and save, highlite this entry and press enter. This should be a sucessful bios flash.

This bios flash utility takes the following command line

aminfxxx bbbbbb.rom where xxx is the version of the flash utility, (usually either aminf326, or aminf328), and bbbbbb is the version of the BIOS binary file. You must have the extension .ROM on the bios file. Be sure that the floppy you are using has a dos boot only and no drivers etc loaded on it. (you can get a boot disk image from bootdisk.com and create a floppy from it)

I have flashed numerous ECS boards and AMI BIOS's, with no problems. There is even a faq on ocworkbench which gives you information on how to recover from a bad flash, and it actually works. This is as close to a bulletproof system as I have seen.
