I got this idea from a friend who is in a college dorm with no A/C, only fans. His room gets HOT and his monitor gets very hot, especially when playing games... he has a 17" Viewsonic... he got a cheap AT power supply, got 2 standard 4pin case fans and mounted on top of the monitor... what I want to know is, which configuration is better: 2 blowing in..or 2 sucking out..or 1 blow in and 1 sucking out..??? Does anyone know??

Don't use it but I would bet it would be best to have either both blowing in or one in and one out. Probably both blowing cooler air in though.

there are a few company's making fans just for that in housings to match the moniter case .
cant remeber where I say them but should be easy to find, if I remember right they all where set up to blow out.

I would almost bet that blowing in would be better. A monitors insides are not like a heatsink. You don't want to suck air out of it, you want to blow nice cool air into the casing. The best method i would think would be, install a fan blowing out at the top, and a fan blowing in on the side. Of course, you'd have to be very careful opening up your monitors case to cut a hole in the side. Monitors can zap you really good for ages after being unplugged.

I have a big ventilator (don't know the correct name, but they hang from the ceilings in cheap motels) placed right over me and the monitor, to cool it - i asked myself that question because my 17" got hot

So now my monitor never get hot - hope it lives longer due to it

Hey thanks for all the replies...thanks Jl123 for the link, his setup is just like that in the picture without the fan housing.... so far my friend says that his monitor is pretty cool now, but he will try some other configurations and see how it goes....

One time I had a 60mm fan mounted on my monitor(blowing in) and I noticed a big difference in temperature. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif It does work. I think monitors should have a quiet built in fan(60mm). You look at all of these monitors that go out and stop working...maybe a little cooling could help. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

BTW, you are welcome. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif No prob.
