Why do people do this? Does it have anything to do with cooling? GroundZero3 09-21-2000, 09:01 PM I wish i thought about getting a bigger case since they are easier to kool and the wires are not all bunched up cause more heat and not able for air to get certain places. plus you never know what your gonna buy next to put in your case. JaYsin Ed_S 09-21-2000, 09:16 PM More space DOES make it easier to keep cool due to less crowding and better airflow. But the most important reason IMO is the future expansion room. Mntsnow 09-21-2000, 09:42 PM That and they are easier to work with once you have hardware installed in them http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Gomer 09-21-2000, 09:45 PM All that space to work in.. Cooling.. expansion... They also make a great monitor stand if you don't have a desk handy. howste 09-21-2000, 10:43 PM I don't know about others, but here are my latest reasons: CD-ROM, CDRW, Jaz internal, Zip internal, 3½" floppy and still plenty of room to work. Of course, sometimes I have to get longer cables... Steve NDC 09-21-2000, 10:51 PM 2~3 5.25" external bays just aren't enough for some people. I use a full tower and I have a CDRW, CDROM, Mobile Rack, Twin Bay cooler, that's 4 bays already right there. I have two more bays that I can use in case I get another drive, such as a DVD drive, maybe another mobile rack, etc. As they have replied above, it seems to keep the system cooler and you have easier access to your hardware because there is so much room. Wish I had gone with the server type cases =) If you can afford them, you should get it. Afford meaning..if you have the room for it and maybe sometimes the money for it. otheos 09-22-2000, 12:08 AM For SCSI based PC's Full tower is most reasonable due to the number of devices SCSI can cary. IDE caries 4 devices max and with 1 of them being an HD, 3 5 1/2 bays are fine. But SCSI can cary 7-15 or even 30 devices. Stan 09-22-2000, 12:51 AM 4 devices max for IDE ? right but in the case of FastTrak users (and there are a lot of them), you can have up to 8 devices ! My full tower has 4 HD (RAID0 on FastTrak), 1 CDROM, 1 DVDROM and 1 LS120. Stan thekingofpain 09-22-2000, 08:24 AM My biggest reason to move to a full tower (Aopen HX08) was the fact that I needed an Athlon capable 300wt powersupply (case has a Sparkle 300) and the entire case was only 20$ more then the p/s separate, afterwards I appreciated the extra fan mounts but most of all, my fat fumbling hands just fit in there better... <IMG SRC="http://b.postmypic.com/b.nsf/Z/MOD4PQWJ/$file/MOD4.jpg" border=0> jjsole 09-22-2000, 10:16 AM I figured a bigger case would be better but I think it is only if you are going to be using more bays, with it helping to space things out. I didn't use those, and it was such a hassle with this 40lb tower whenever I needed to move it. Large cases require larger or more fans so that the additional air can be circulated adequately pulling the heat away from the devices and away from any dead space etc. Increasing the fan output increases the noise which is another inconvenience. I say get one if you think you'll need it but don't if you don't because they aren't necesarily better if you don't take advantage of the benefits. ablang 09-22-2000, 03:51 PM One reason is so guys can say "Mine's bigger than yours". Another is probably so they wouldn't have to spend money on a case anymore (assuming its a XT, not an AT case), since you could keep replacing the power supply when it dies out. Win_98 09-22-2000, 04:38 PM that depend if you like it on the floor then get full tower, if you like it on your desk get medium. I gotten full tower before for a hefty 90 buck but never ever used it since because it just too up too much room for me and the cover I had to remove that was as long as a person was a pain. falcompsx 09-22-2000, 07:47 PM case size doesn't matter, as long as it's not a microatx POS. As far as the mine is bigger then yours statement, that's only for people who are inseccure about themselves...but let's not get into that, this isn't the right website for that. Speed 09-22-2000, 11:21 PM Its important that you can fit things into it, many times I have thought... Man, Im not going to put anything into my computer for a while!... Next thing you know a new DVD rewriter comes out, or I ran out of HD space. Right now I have 3 HDs with room for 3 more, CD, CDRW, DVDRW with 1 more external large bay, A Floppy drive and a ZIP internal with one more bay open. I have 4 case fans, and so much more room in there its amazing and my case is not that huge. Fits under my desk perfectly. You can really not have enough space. Im sure in 3-6 months something else will come out that I just cant live without!!! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif jl123 09-22-2000, 11:32 PM First reason is there is plenty of room to work on it. Next, components are less cramped up meaning it's easier to cool. You will also have better airflow. I can't stand my HP. The case is so small. I perfer a big case so that i know that there is plenty of room for these huge heatsinks and fans. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif I put "plent" not "plenty". http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Oppps http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif ~Joel [This message has been edited by jl123 (edited 09-23-2000).] chuckiechan 09-23-2000, 09:35 AM Since it sits beside my desk rather than under it, I can stack more **** on it. Plus, I don't have to bend so far to hit the reset button or reach the cd & floppy drives. Plus, I can put a full six pack PLUS a bag of chips on it. Underclocked 09-23-2000, 10:09 AM Because I like 'em! For all of the above good reasons. But, I must disagree with the statement about larger cases needing more and larger fans, the opposite is true. My HX08 keeps everything nicely cool with just one added 80mm front case fan. PIII 800e at 27 degrees C. using stock cooling. Ironforge 09-23-2000, 11:25 AM I love full towers.. plenty of room for expansion... I have 7 drives right now, 4HD and 3 CD/DVD devices.. plan to add another with a drive cooler also.. easy to work with don't have to move anything out of the way to access my drive bays.. Takes up the same room as a midtower case basically just taller.. heh.. FULL TOWERS ALL THE WAY! looks nice next to the flatscreen also http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif skywalker[TSG] 09-23-2000, 06:22 PM i just love my full tower me need to get a bigger one dough all 5 5.25z are filled with HDD racks and cd-r+DVD man i need something like 10 5.25z but cases like that cost some major green if ya know what i mean also there is alot more room for air to move and for my hands to work inside the case SysOpt.com
