I own a CD-R Audio recorder and also a PC based CD-R recorder. Several months ago while watching ZDTV one of the Techies on the show made mention of a free program out on the internet that wrote the code to a regular CD-R that turned it into a CD-RA that was usuable on the CD-RA Recorder.
Does anyone know of this program and the site that the file can be downloaded?

what are you talking about? plain CD-Rs are working perfectly in Audio (deck) cd-recorders. If you've been buy CD-RA all this time, you've just been wasting money.

Maybe there is some confusion here, about the CD-R Audio records. There are 2 Types:

1. The first type were the Profession Audio reorders which did not require CD-R Audio discs. Their price was between $1,500 and $2,000. These recorders were used primarily in the recording studio enviroment to make a Master CD on, which was usually origional material. Therefore, the copy management code wasn't neccessary, thus these units used CD-R's. Discs made from there units are highly compatible with PC's.

2. The second type and the most common is the CD-R Audio Consumer type. They cost between $300 - $600 And are used primarily in the home. Since they are priced for the consumer who would most likely be recording pre-recorded music on them, the CD-R Audio discs are required which are encoded with Copy Management information. Also, by the way discs made from these recorders are more compatible with the old and new players, however, the 1st track is not very compatible with PC's.

My Pioneer burner (stand alone Audio) uses plain CD-R's. Same does my friend's Philips, and I Maranz I once saw was burning on plain CD-R's. Now, If you got a Sony unit chances are they made it so that it only burns on CD-RA's (just to shaft you -> Sony commonly shafts their clients with this kind of restricted products).

As for the CD-RA's and CD-R's they are physicaly IDENTICAL. The only way a burner can tell them apart is from the SN. Other than that they are same, all the burners (PC or Deck) burn them just as good (both Audio and Data).

So still I wonder, what are you talking about. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
