I notice something after i installed both Win2k and WinME running on Fat32, that is win2k is running faster on fat32 rather than NTFS.
Why is that?
and
Should i keep running win2k on fat32 or is it better on ntfs?

Unless you need to use NTFS 5 for reasons like quota's or security or compression then I would stick with FAT32. You can natively boot and diagnose/fix problems. Also FAT32 on charts is faster then NTFS 5.
Just stick with FAT32 if you have a stand alone computer at home.

NTFS has more functions than FAT32, so the overhead is quite a bit higher.
It's difficult to determine which file system is faster NTFS or FAT. The decision is complicated because speed depends on the file system used, the hardware it's used on, the size of the folder, and the location of the file in the folder. When used on an appropriate volume size (and for small folders), FAT may be faster than NTFS because of its more basic structure. FAT also may be able to access files faster because it doesn't have to first check file permissions, as NTFS does.
However, if the accessed file is badly fragmented, NTFS requires fewer disk accesses to find the fragments because of its B-tree folder structure. This B-tree structure also makes it faster to access files in large folders on a NTFS volume than on a FAT one

I did testing at work on the speed difference from FAT16 toFAT32 to NTFS4.
Fat16 was definitely faster in overall benchmarks, but 2.1G limit sucked.
FAT32 was comparable to FAT16.
NTFS was the worst performer. I attribute it to the fact NTFS writes a file last accessed record for every file you touch, and it also checks security permissions on every file when accessed. These two things really slow everything down a little here and a little there...
In otherwords, use FAT32.

I use NTFS on win2k because it defrags much much faster than FAT 32.
on my other computer with win2K i use ntfs because it can be compressed and I save a hole gig and a bit.
