My 11 year old son was recently given an old 486 laptop (IBM thinkpad) which is running windows 3.1. He wants to update this to windows 95. There is no CD drive on the laptop. So he thought he could set up a direct cable conection and access the CD drive on our desktop that way.

His idea was to use parallel ports to do this using a laplink caple between the two ports. I set the parallel port on the desktop to EPP, after reading some other posts here it seems I should change it to ECP instead (there is also a setting for ECP+EPP). We set the CD drive for sharing on the desktop (which is running windows 98).

Having trouble figuring out what to do on the laptop to get it to network with the desktop. We went to network connections in file manager on the laptop...this opens a "netware drive connections" window with drives listed on the left and a blank space for resources on the right. We are at a loss at that point, as the help says drag the resource to the drive letter that you want to map it to but we can't figure out how you get anything in the resource column.

Used a dos (forgot the name of it) networking program to resolve this problem. :)
