I'm planning to upgrade my computer. My current configuration is:
Pentium 200
32Mb RAM
16x CD-ROM Drive
2.5Gb HD
3Dfx Voodoo Banshee
SB 16
Running Windows NT4...
I'm looking for a upgrade that will make my current computer a lot faster in apps.. such as Flash, Office, Photoshop etc.
I have already planned to upgrade my Hard Drive to at least 10gb or maybe 15Gb. And my CPU as a Celeron 533, because I don't need a fast CPU. The last thing I need to know is how much memory would i need?
I want to run Windows NT 4 or Windows 2000 on this computer, I'm lookin' at 128Mb RAM, should that be enough? Maybe 192Mb? 256Mb?

128 would be the minimum I would personally recommend for NT (4x or 2000) or ME But would recommend 256 if you can afford it as it will greatly reduce or possiably eliminate the use of your swap file which will greatly increase your productivity!
Yes, that is correct. NT4 and Win2K are real RAM hogs! Even with 128mb RAM you will get swap file disk access. To get acceptable performance in Photoshop, I would recommed at least 256MB RAM. It also depends on the size of imgae files that you work with. I use 768MB RAM on my NT4 and work with images files that are at least 300MB+ and even with 768MB RAM, I come across low memory after opening and closing a few files in Photoshop. To recover the RAM back to it's maximum, it's best to close Photoshop to recover the memory and then restart it.

Remember, depending on what chipset you are using some are limited to only 64mb of max system memory. Anything other then that is a waste of money and can slow down your system. Like the VX chipset.

True Sixpack but I personally dont know of any motherboard that has been made yesterday or tomorrow that supports the Celeron 533 CPU that Willy says he's going to be using that doesnt support atleast 512megs and the majority support atleast 768megs http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
