Hi all
I have a PC100 M599lmr M/board and an AMD K6-2 500 chip.
I have tried using an awe64 soundcard & Voodoo 32000 graphics but apart from hearing the HDD start up...then stop...
my PC wont activate the monitor at all.
I have scanned the manual and cannot get any info regarding graphics problems/settings. I cant look in Bios as I cannot get vision onscreen to investigate.
Any help wld be gratefully received, as I am getting so tired of this problem.
Many thanks, and stay safe.
Cheers

Things I'd try first:

a) Does the power light of the monitor come on? Is it red, yellow or green?
b) Does the monitor work on another system?
c) Is the vid card seated firmly and squarely in the slot?

I had to put a washer under the attachement plate on mine to make the vid card sit level with the slot.

That's all I can think of at the moment

Firstly John, thanks for your reply pal.
The monitor works fine with another system so I've ruled out this hardware as the problem.
Also. I've tried powering up without a graphics card fitted to no avail.
Thanks again

Here's a couple of things I would check:

Have you disabled the on-board video?

Do you have the CPU voltage/multiplier/fsb settings correct?

Remove the soundcard and unplug the HDDs, cdroms and floppys. Try reseating the CPU, memory , and video card, and power supply connector. Now try booting up without the sound card. Hopefully should at least boot up.

Try rearranging the memory in the DIMM slots. Maybe one of them is bad.

Good Luck

Thanks a lot for the reply.

Please excuse the quotes.....

Have you disabled the on-board video?
No...the manual doesnt tell me how to disable video and I cant find anything more than the same manual (.PDF) online.

Do you have the CPU voltage/multiplier/fsb settings correct?
The manual tells me that it auto-detects all this, and so nothing is given in the manual!

Remove the soundcard and unplug the HDDs, cdroms and floppys. Try reseating the CPU, memory , and video card, and power supply connector. Now try booting up without the sound card. Hopefully should at least boot up.

I'll give this a try!

....and this!!!!

Many thanks again...brilliant place...only hope I can help someone sometime.

Cheers

Hi vinni,
To disable onboard AGP goto BIOS then PCI Plug and play setup
change from on board AGP to PCI
should then be OK

Vinni,
Are you not getting anything on your monitor even if you remove your voodoo 3 card and use the on-board video?

Try clearing the BIOS to see if that helps.

Yup...tried all this and the HDD kick in then stops and...nothing.

Thanks for all responses. You all make a difference here.

Stay safe

Hi again vinni,
just a thought, and you more than likely have checked already, but.
1 double check that the clear CMOS connector is on the right pins, I know the 598 LMR board manual has the pins marked incorrectly on the Mboard diagram. Learnt it through trial and error having had the same problems as you are having.
2 Try booting without the jumper.
3 Try booting with the END key depressed, it clears the CMOS without swapping jumpers,
4 Try booting with INSERT key depressed, it forces the board to check it's own NVRAM and resets the CMOS.

Each one of these at one time or another have sorted my CMOS on a 598LMR board at one time or another.

Cheers Madmac....I will try those things, and let you and all the other good people know the outcome.
Thanks for your time

Stay safe

What is the maker of your motherboard? Does it support he K6-2 500 as well as the K6 500?

If it is supported then you can try the following:
With only the mobo, RAM and video connnected (the power supply should also be disconnected from everything but the motherboard) try the following:

1. Set the CPU for something rated less than your CPU (i.e. 450)
2. Remove all but bare minimum RAM (2 SIMM or 1 DIMM depending on your mobo maker and model)
3. Double check that the speaker is properly connected to the motherboard and that make sure the speaker is a known good speaker.

If there's still no picture, then remove the video card and you should get a number of beeps. If not, then remove the RAM to see if you get beeps at that point. If still no noise then it must be a bad CPU or bad motherboard. If you have an older known good CPU then try it, etc. etc.
