Hi all,
I've ordered Windows XP Home - OEM Edition from a web site.
I was wondering is this edition for upgrades or for clean installs.
I think myself (at least i hope) that the version is used for a clean installation. I would prefer to format my drive and install a clean copy of XP but i'm not sure if it this edition of XP will allow it.
I have an old copy of Win98SE lying around just incase but would prefer to start from a blank drive.
Anyone know if it supports an Adaptec 19160 Ultra 3 SCSI card or am i looking for boot drivers???
Thanks!!!

You can usually do a clean install, even from an upgrade edition of Windows. Boot from a boot disk with CD rom support/ start the install from the new version of Windows CD/ then windows should prompt you to insert the CD from your previous version of Windows just to verify you own one/ then it goes back to the install process for your new version.

Hi all,
I just received the version of Windows XP Home - OEM edition yesturday in the post.
I thought i might fill you in on what version it was as people were interested in the result.
It is the full version of XP Home not the upgrade version.
It came in a cardboard sleeve with a clear foil around it. No fancy box or even a box around the CD, it's one of those shrink wrapped types.
Anyone who got a new Dell will know what i'm talking about.
This version is for PC makers to install on a new PC but it works ,give you a proper license and is cheaper < £70 sterling.
I picked it up at http://www.overclockers.co.uk if people are interested and it's available now not at the end of the month.

Adbvfab: Thanks for this info.
Xeroid: You're perfectly right in saying you can do a clean install or upgrade from an upgrade version of any windows version. In fact both the upgrade and full install are identical except in the setup routine the upgrade will look for a qualifying version.
But you don't need to boot from a start up disk and all that. Set the BIOS to boot from the CD. ALL windows cds are bootable. Thats all you have to do.

Some folks get a little twitchy when you start telling them to get into their BIOS.
You would swear you just told them to go out and sand the hood on their new BMW. :D
