supervisor password for what? to boot? to internet explorer?

i can't speak for anyone else, but i wouldn't tell a junior member how to remove a supervisor password. nothing personal, but for all i know the password was put there to keep you out of it.

The problem is that when the laptop boot up it ask's you for a password...
It'a bios based password!!!!!

It's the supervisor bios password...

I tried to change the hard-drive with another computer in hope i would be able to do something but it seams that the password it incrypted onto the hard-drive as well...

It's a thinkpad 390x....

I hope the info provided is sufficient!!!

Extreme. Best answer yet http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Contact IBM's Tech support and they can help you remove the bios password once you have provided the serial #'s of the laptop. They do this to check the serial # against the registered owner to help find stolen laptops. If you are not the original owner of the laptop provide proof that you are now the current legal owner and they will still help http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I have an IBM that does that too. I put the password on it so no one else could get in it, then i forgot what it was! I finally opened my computer and saw the jumper settings inside the case on a sticker.....anyway, i changed a Jumper and it cleared the password. Your best bet would be going to IBM.com and getting the jumper settings for your laptop. Then look for the jumper that would clear the BIOS start-up password. Hope it helps!

Pysco-holic slag.

If you buy a second hand computer and it has a password on it, does that mean its stolen? mabey extrem24 just registered so he could ask that question. Computer manufacturers and designers put a jumper or another way to erase the password just in case this kind of thing happens.

I have contacted IBM and given them the serial # but they said that the only way to get it out would be by changing the hard-drive and the motherboard (Ya right!!!)))) I'm sure there is a way to reset the bios but it's not with jumper cause there is none on the motherboard....there must be another way.

Let me know
Thanks all!
Mike
(By the way the Laptop is mine, I just didn't used it for so long and forgot the password on it)

Do you have a supervisor password or hard drive password? Or did you use both? If you have a hard drive password you might could low level format the drive by installing it in another computer.

As for the supervisor password you could replace the COS chip all.

There is both.....
supervisor on bios!!!
and on hard-drive....

I have tried to put the hard-drive into another machine put it does the same.
I have even tried to change the hard-drive chip board to see if it was on the board put it's really on the hard-drive....

And i can't low level format it cause i can't even co past that password thing...

AS for changing the bios it's kind of hard since the bios is not removable like on destop computers. It permenante!!!!!
