IMO, I think that Seagate has more of a reputation for SCSI HDD, not IDE. Personally, I like Western Digital IDE HDD. I currently use 2 WD UDMA66 7,200rpm HDD on my workstation and they run flawlessly. And I also use Seagate Cheetah Ultra160 10,000rpm HDD and I use that drive to run my OS and applications. And work on large graphic files from that drive since it's faster.
I use my IDE drives strictly for saved data and data that needs to be transfered from one pc to another with a mobile rack.

Work great as long as it doesn't corrupt your file or die out on you like 1-2 yrs. thats what scare me the most. WD maybe a bit more reliable?

Personally I have used all of the major HD manufacturers in my business. Maxtor, IBM, WD, Seagate, ect and I can honestly say you will not go wrong with Maxtor, IBM, WD or Seagate. Just go with one that is in your price range for the capacity that you want. They all have excellent warranties and very smooth RMA processes incase you ever need to use it http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif BTW in the last 2 years I have mainly used Maxtor HD's with excellent results

I agree with mntsnow.
I have used all brands in the past, they are all just as good. Seagates are excellent drives, never had one die on me. As for their SCSI/IDE reputation I think they manage great in both fields.
