Dear Fellow Posters:
Want a free computer? Or at least s computer part? Come to Manhattan, the Core of the Big Apple.
Things discarded are picked up every Saturday so people in well-to-do ares put out their old stuff on Friday nite.
Now ,you might think this is junk--nah!
When I lived near Columbia University , could furnish apt ..come to think of it...near did.
In wealthy nabes, people discard a 17" monitor to get a 19" and because rents are like $2000 for a dumpy studio, they get rid of "old" to save space.
Problem is getting the stuff home. Parking cost like $450 plus 18% tax and insanity does not run in my family so need taxi.

"Is this whatever worth it?" , you ask. Ah! the agony of discarded computers!
You'd think they'd at least pull the hard drive and deep six it but not always--this amazes me. Lots of people don't even know how to open up a case. Believe it or not , I've rarely seen one that 's been stripped.
Even old stuff can have goodies: I took home a '97 machine in the hope of pulling EDO ram, got FP instead--and worthy SW.
P.S. Check out the self-storage facilities where you live. People store stuff. move and discard this and that.
