Next summer I am considereing looking for a job as a part time computer repairer/builder.
But I don't know nothing about those areas.
So is it better now to teach myself instead how to built and repair a computer by reading books or should I just take some college computer hardware courses?

I'd say do both if you can..... you never really know where you will find knowledge and experience.
Books allow you to learn topics perhaps not covered in the classroom, and the class room usually provides discussion on topics that you can't get from a book.
There is no way you can learn everything in a years time, but if you use as many avenues as possible in that time, you can learn a pretty substantial amount of information. One other thing you might want to do is ask around about internships at your local computer repair shops. Personally, I think hands-on experience is one of the better ways to learn. Being in a shop with trained/experienced people will (IMHO) accelerate your learning curve as well. Granted, the pay for an intern (if any) might not be very good compared to the regular techs, but then again, most of us don't get paid to learn.
Best of luck in whatever you decide to do.

I personally concur with what Target has said. Working side by side with an experienced Tech is invaluable! (as long they are willing do so explaining along the way). Reading and studying books will increase your knowledge but is not a replacement for practical experience either. Book study will increase your "indepth" knowledge of a particular area (meaning you will know the Why and the why nots) instead of just knowing "do it this way" http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Try and do a bit of both and you will be well rewarded for it in the future
Okay, I'm on it! Thanks people.
