I don't know anything about norton so I don't know if this is a good value. I received this in the email from some stupid spamming company. It comes with Virus, Ghost, CleanSweep, Utilities, & WinFax Pro. All of those are the 2001 editions & they want $19.95 with free shipping. www.free-irewards.com/cgi-bin/elist/basket.html?id=9DNQfabh

Not a bad price assuming that S&H and tax isn't excessive and you say it's free so that sounds good.

Will work fine if you are using a pre-WIN2K operating system. Realize this is a nearly 2 year old package and didn't support WIN 2K as I recall.

You can sometimes find the CURRENT VERSION for prices in that ball park at Costco or on a special at other stores and all requiring rebates .

The Norton (Symantec) products are pretty good to my way of thinking. I switched to their AntiVirus when I started using WIN 2K because the McAfee VirusScan doesn't properly scan e-mail with their new version and their technical support doesn't respond to queries about it. It also slows the machine down severely.

I recommend the Norton/Symantec Anti-Virus and their tools as well.

Poo poo on Norton! From what I've seen it's as intrusive and damaging as AOL. My 2 cents.........or what ever.

**EDIT** OOOPS! Just noticed the one you had chosen was the '2000' version... BAD!
It won't run on WinME (if you have it). The version I listed below
is 2001 Pro. I'd reccommend this one, and it's cheaper as well.
*****

Good parts of the software:
Norton Antivirus (I like it.. it has never failed me)
Ghost
Utilities: Speed disk, disk doctor
Norton WipeInfo

NEVER run the system monitor... big resource hog.
Clean sweep is playing with fire if you aren't careful.

...is a better deal. I bought it here as well.

I don't think you went far enough.

He's talking about the 2001 PRO version which has free shippng.

It's the RETAIL BOX with manual and all and is less than $5.00 more than the OEM version with nothing but CD that your specify.

Identical software however.

If you want a manual and some assurance that it's going to be registered without a hassle because it wasn't "for purchase with a new system only" then it MAY be a better way to go.

It's up to the individual.

The link that may take you diretly to that page and you can scroll down to the System Works Pro 2001 is:

One important thing to note is that some versions work on NT and some do not! Make sure you check before you buy, if you plan to run it on an NT box!

BTW, please do not "Poo poo on Norton!" It is a very effective suite of tools if you take the time to learn and use it properly. Yes, the default installation will hog your resources. If you learn just a little bit about it, it can be a very valuable troubleshooting/optimizing tool. I would not consider running a Windows PC without it.
