I would like to know the proper type of hard drive to install with the ABIT BE6/2 REV2 BX ATA/66 motherboard. An EIDE or an SCSI type of drive, not sure which is best and any recommended manufacturers. Also where can I purchase mounting hardware for a P3 500 mHz SECC2 processor for same board.
Well, as for your BE6-2 M/B, the economical way to go is to buy IDE drive. You will need to buy a SCSI adapter to use SCSI HDD. It kinda depends on what you do to determine if SCSI is for you. SCSI drives do a much better job when it comes to multi-tasking.
If you do alot of graphics, Video Editing, basically applications that do heavy disk access, you will see much better performance on SCSI drives. But if you are planning to get a 7,200rpm SCSI drive, don't waste your money on it. Just get a 7,200 rpm IDE HDD.
I currently run a Seagate Ultra160 18.4gb 10,000rpm with Adaptec 29160N Ultra 160 SCSI Adapter and I'm very happy with the performance.
Check out the link I provided below to learn more on IDE VS. SCSI:
