Does anybody know a reliable commodore Amiga emulator that will run well, and recognise Amiga format disks in the a:drive. (with instructions)
And if so, does anybody know how I can get the game 'Ports of Call' for the Amiga, as that used to be my most favorite game ever.
Been looking for years to play that game again, and I'd really want to get hold of it to play on my PC one way or another.
Cheers

I don't know of any Amiga emulator which recognize Amiga floppy disk directly. What I know is about a project of modding a PC floppy to emulate an Amiga floppy drive (don't remember the URL).
I use UAE and Winfellow for emulating my amiga games but you need to download the Amiga Image File (one file by floppy) and the Amiga Rom.
As for Port of Call I never see it for download by I see a Web site where you can buy it for PC (again I don't remember the URL)
Hope it help.

Hi,
I remember that game, and I think I might have it still on disk packed away somewhere with the old machine. Would that be any help to you if I could find it?

If you have got it, I'll buy it off you.
Then the problem will be, 1st the security of the game, as you need the manual to get throught the games 'anti pirating' (colour photocopiers were hard to find then...).
and secondly how do I get it into rom format onto the pc as when I left home some 10 years ago, my folks kindly sold my Amiga. (I still get grumpy when I think about that).
You are the first person I've ever heard of that even knows of the game let alone still own it...
Amazing
I also have it in Amiga format and cracked but I can't pass it to a ADF as I haven't the null modem cable and the file transfer program (maybe I buy a cable tomorrow)

God I'd love to have an emulator to read Amiga floppies. I have a silly amount of games that I would love to run again.

The Amiga floppy disk format is incompatible with PC floppy drives and no amount of software can overcome it. The Amiga drives used a variable speed disk read method, similar in some ways to the old Mac format.
The null-modem cable is the best bet - or look for a source of downloadable ADF format files.

Thanks all you guys for the info, I am very impressed as to the response I've had regarding my queries.
One thing though, I assume you need the original a500 to do the transfer across, and that is what I have a problem with... no longer have the machine.
I have a lot of the disks, such as 'Great Giana Sister' banned due to its remarkable similarity to Mario bros (in my opinion, it is better) and things like stunt car racer and starglider.
I'll have to keep an eye out for the second hand Amigas in the newspaper to get these working again.

Isn't that funny now. I've had an old A500 sitting in a box somewhere for years, and almost gave it away several times but no one really wanted it.

Even when you get hold of an Amiga (try to get hold of an Amiga Technologies 1200 with a Hard Drive!) you will have to overcome the hurdle of making ADF backup files from your existing disks.
Here is the good news ... The Giana Sisters live on :D

I use Amiga Forever (http://www.cloanto.com/amiga/forever/) which contains UAE. I've no idea how you would go about making .adf files but there are perfectly legal sites where you can download .adf files of games that you own. I've got The Great Giana Sisters, Wings, Stunt Car Racer, Lotus Challenge, Operation Stealth, Maniac Mansion, Alien Breed, Battle Chess, Shadow of the Beast 1 and 2, Another World, Flashback, Golden Axe, IK+, Pang, Pinball Dreams, Wonderboy, Zany Golf and several others (all .adf files) :)

Cheers Dudster
I've downloaded WinUAE0817 from the site but am having probs locating kickstart 1.3, any recommended sites as the sites I've looked at have had to remove the OS under the request of Amiga
BTW where do you recommend to look for a good selection of Amiga adf files, I'll have another look tonight, but I am at work and there check the proxy reports to stop gameheads :-(

BTW, Before I get really flamed......
I know it''s illegal to get a pirated copy of the kickstart disk as it is still a licenced piece of software, but I still have a copy (well two actually, as I used to work in a computer shop then and we kept spares) of the kickstart 1.2 disks and have no way of using it on the PC.
Additionally, I still have a lot of the games, (a whole box, approx 150 disks) as I when I left home I took them with me, carefully boxed up for the last 11 years.
So I'd Like to get them on ADF format, I am looking out for a A500 secondhand in the England, but I can't buy one yet as the wife will kill be as we are just about to move house, hence the discovery of this goldmine in the attic and the frantic search of the net for the software before it all goes forever.
Squirrel: send me a mail to oli_hal@hotmail.com
I have some Kickstart for use with emulators

Amiga Forever came with Kickstart (1.3 and 3.1) ROMs and Workbench "disks" so I never had to download them separately :)
