Heyal,

My system started rebooting 3 or more times before starting Windows, never had it do that before. Anyone else have that happen?

Thanks,
Southern Belle

What is your OS?

need more information. specifically:

-is there an error message?
-at what point does it reboot? during the POST? while the OS is loading?
-and yes... what OS?
-have you tried pulling any unneeded cards (modem, soundcard) to see if it still happens?

hi,

thanks for reply!

Just put in Win98
sometimes after post then its done it also after the listing of hardware but mostly after the mem posting.

no error message at all.

no new hardware in or out.

was just weird was thinking was another power supply changed it not long ago and was from older system. I thought this because same prob with black screen and bright icons only in desktop. It has done this a few times but seems fine now on display.

just the rebooting thing.
scanned no viruses dat files updated.

thanks again for your advice looking forward to more of your replies.

If it's checking the RAM 3 times then it's just a setting in the BIOS.
Look for a setting "Quick power on self test" if it is disabled it will count the RAM 3 times. Enable it and it goes thru it once.
That sounds like whats happening to you Z.
If it's rebooting after the hardware detection like in Southern Belle's case, then I would suspect a problem with RAM or PS problem.
Here's a good tester for RAM, look for the free version of "DocMemory". http://www.simmtester.com/default.asp
Hope it helps. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Hey,

Well it's definately the power supply was online till wee hours this morn and wham rebooted itself out of the blue and then couldn't get it back up to windows at all.

Power it on and reboots after the pci details [5 times and then a couple more] if it gets that far. Let it sit for a while and it'll start up ....if fingers crossed, legs crossed and holding pointy object violently at pc lol. The screen black but I start a game called bubble puzzle and that kicks in the display drivers i guess, only thing that will make display come back normally.

Daaammmm I hate power supplies this is the 3rd one [2nd I've had to put in] but was from an old system should of known or thought about it but didnt think it would go out so fast.

Still weird though only started after installation of win98-SE.

Oh and yes you are correct on the it having a ram problem due to incorrect stick was suppose to be 64megs and only came out to 32meg SDRam...and I left the other 16meg of ..old ram hadn't had any real noticable problems though on it and it shows list of which banks are holding.

I know I know a no no but hey looking for new job now and then I'll get an all new kicking and screaming system. Anybody in my area hiring? lol

Anyway am going to site for the memtester, thanks for the info on it.

Thanks for all the help on this too.
