hey,

ive had this problem on and off but never quite got it settled.
i have static noise coming out of one of my speakers. i know these speakers are fine. my sound card is a sblive vlaue and i have a creative dxr 3 hooked up to it externally for sound for my dvd player.

if i pull the external cable out of the sound card the noise goes away. i tried a different cable too with no luck. i dont think its a driver issue because this happened in in 98/ME and now 2000.

so im left to ponder: is it the dxr 3?? the sound works fine when i play dvd's. im thinking no. anyone have a similar issue?

Is there a separate gain that you can adjust aside from the actual volume conrtol?

Try muting your input and mic if they're active in volume control.

Is there any chance the weight of the cable is helping with a loose connection? one just loose enough to cause static?

Make sute that your audio leads are not drapped out any modem or power leads, they could be causing interference/cross talk.

I have seen an instance where a modem cable was spicking up very faint signals from other telephone users in a building and then cross talking with the sound cards leads.

Some very interesting conversations going on :)

I had this problem once while using a home stereo as an amplifier. The stereo had a two wire plug. I ran a ground wire from the stereo to the computer case and that fixed it. I suspected the static was from something else running in the house like a flouresent lite or refrigerator. I unhooked the ground and turned off everything in the house that was on. Turned out it was a flouresent light in my room. Static is usually caused by cross bleed and poor shielding. It is also a symptom of a bad connection. I hope this helps.

the only thing that works is to mute "line out" in audioheadquaters for my sblive. i guess this will have to do.
nothing else worked.

thanx
