Absolutely DO NOT place that thing between your CPU and the heat-sink. It would create a a large gap and prevent your CPU from making flush contact with the sink, greatly effecting heat transfer. Some have even reported that it burned up their CPU's.

Where/how to mount it sort of depends on the CPU you have, and the heat-sink, but you want to find a place where you can attach it as close to the CPU core as you can to get the most accurate readings. Some people have taped them to the PCB of the newer flip-chip CPU's right beside the CPU Core. Others affix them to the heat-sink in a manner that doesn't interfere with the surface contact between the CPU and the underside of the heat-sink.

You'll probably want to get a bit creative in your placement, just take care not to place it in an area that is too far away from the CPU core (ie: like at the furthest point on the sink away from the CPU contact), nor place it in an area that will compromise the contact that the CPU makes with the heat-sink.

You could always attach it to your video card or hard drive, just for info. You probably already have a cpu sensor.

does the abit ka7 have a sensor for the cpu already?? when i look at the cpu temp in the bios it stays at 0 celcius...which is obviously wrong.
