DDR "266 mh" ram only have like 100 point diffrence from "133 mhz sdr"
Bottom line is sdram vs ddr dosent make much diffrence on 3dmark score.
YOUR SCORE DOESNT COUNT! IT ISNT DEFAULT SETTINGS OTHERWISE U WOULD GO TROUGH ALL TEST NOT ONLY THE GAMES. YOU WOULD HAVE BIG DIFFRENCE IN SCORE IF U USED DEFAULT SETTINGS.
And WTF up with your FSB? it's at 0 mhz???

yeah.. but back when i was in the 7000's i was told by Bizkitkid that i needed DDR to go anywhere near 9000 mark.. i got almost 500 points over.... pretty good going from 7000ish to 9500ish with same hardware!
Dunno about the FSB.. I have an Abit KT7A-RAID.... guess there is a bug.
About the settings.. it crashes some times and wont give me a score.. .. i wil TRY to get a default (all i was missing was the theory tests!!!) score.

Thanks for being my.... Test dummy? :) wanted to see how well a Athlon 1900+ would do with a gf4200 seem nice but not worth the money to spend on 3 computers hat i dont use heavy games on it.
Nice scores tro!

Re-tested at a moderate O/C of 138FSB (276), vid card at stock settings (225/400), 3DMark at stock settings, build 330.
4865 3DMarks
Only thing holding me back is the GeForce 2 Ti 64MB card...
I can easily hit 5300 with a moderate O/C on the video card...
I really need to get a newer, faster vid card, but for what I do it's alright. I play the newest stuff at moderate framerates.
Might go to a GeForce 4 Ti 4600 at Christmas... probably end up well over the 10,000 barrier then!

You still should get higher than that!.. what are your memory timings? they the latest ATi drivers? and you have the latest VIA 4-in-1's installed?... what about any background tasks? also, seeing as you have the FSB to lower than 200 MHz, you should be able to run the Corsair CL2.5 at CL2.... you only just have the FSB over 166.. .other than that.

Bigjakkstaffa
10-11-2002, 05:22 PM
XP is MUCH MUCH more stable then 98, some argue 98 is marginally faster than XP/2k for games etc, but in realiy this is untue or negligible.

Totally. I "duel" boot 98SE and XP, but ever since I've had XP, 98SE has just been a big pain in the ***** (comparatively). The only reason I keep it around is... is... you know, I don't even know anymore ;)
Bigjakkstaffa
10-11-2002, 06:15 PM
Win 9x is much easier to handle in the case of an almighty f**kup due to the ability to drop into DOS and sort it all out, its also useful to hav as a duel boot in order to repair the other OS should it becoem damaged.. other than that it just sits and does... well not a lot.. thats why i got rid of it (all my part. are fat 32 so no need for its DOS capabilities)

Snix, your score seems pretty good for the card. There are some optimaizations in the BIOS, start here for pretty standard settings:http://www.omegacorner.com/
if it's not a direct link, go to the nVidia section, then find BIOS settings. I had (up until last week) a GF2GTS-Pro 64mb, and I got around 4200, but I'm running XP really lean too. Of course, you could always oc yer card...

It is the AYHJA Thunderbird. Never was locked. I've tried upping the multiplier(default 10.5x133=1400), but it gives too much of a MHz increase without the gain. The only way to go to 158 fsb is by DEcreasing the multiplier from 10.5 to 10. At 10.5 I can't seem to get the fsb much higher than 152...:D . Btw, most people don't realize what an awesome board the Ak31v2.0 really was when pushed a bit. The only gripe I have is that there is a capacitor right next to the stock hsf on the northbridge so that a Crystal Orb (left over from my GF2Pro megaoverclocking days) will NOT fit, dammit.

You can overclock a CPU by increasing the multiplier or front side bus or a combination of the two. Obviously, since he has left the CPU locked (at 12.5) he cannot raise the multiplier, it stays at 12.5 all the time. But he can raise the fsb from the default 133 (12.5x133=1666) to 12.5x146=1825mhz. I get better results by increasing the fsb more than by increasing the multiplier. Reason: the multiplier only increases the CPU speed, whereas the fsb increase effects all buses (agp/pci and ram) therefore increasing overall system speed. But will also crash your whole system if taken too far.

Voltage arent suppose to give addontial speed all it does is give cpu more power to handle higher O/C speed. maybe it's due to the mainboard limit? Few FSB speed choices and dont have high multiplier ablity.

Witch-Talon, he just wrote that his cpu was unlocked. Dude. His 1333 T-Bird was 10x133 at default, and he most likely did 10.5x140, or even 11x133 (which wouldn't really make any sense though). Jack, 137 mhz increase aint too shabby, considering the T-Bird core at our end. I can push my AYHJA 1400 T-Bird to 1596, but after that all bets are off. That is roughly the same increase as you 137/159, that is pretty close. Best boost is with fsb though.

But then, does it add the slightest bit of doubt to ALL data? Including the final score. From there, if error is applied evenly to all data, then the program could still be used. Unless the spread of error is itself error prone, i.e. one persons score is erroneous but another persons score has less error, or none at all.

By being "not pretty" are you saying "unstable" cause I can go higher and get it to post but it doesn't want to defrag and some other things i do from time to time. and my Mobo is a little older, I don't know where to find the multiplier in the BIOS.
x51out
11-12-2002, 11:54 AM
You mite not have it available in the BIOS. Check your mobo for jumpers, they are probably there somewhere along with a tiny diagram showing the different settings. By not pretty, I mean, 3Dmark2001SE runs all the way through, but 158 is nearly 20% over 133, which can't be good for the agp and pci bus.

But I've had my share of blue screens and lockups and windows no-loads when oc'ing. Fortunately, I've haven't smoked any hardware yet...;) And I used to get 4200 on this very same machine with a GeForce2Pro and I thought THAT was smooth.

I'm using a Prometeia from Chip Com Con Prometia (http://www.xtwerkz.com/vapor_cooling.htm)
I should have my new Swiftech MCW50-t 80w pelt and waterblock combo for my 9700 in a day or 2 and then I should get some decent scores out of this pig. The best I can get out of the card now is 371/317. I am looking into attaching pelts for every ram (8 of them 15mmx15mm) but then I will have to make a custom waterblock for the card kind of like the one that was made for the 4600. It looks like an L and clamps the card between the 2 blocks. That and the volt mod would get me near the 19000 range I would guess. Still not up with the Pentiums but close.

ahh, yes.. the faithfull Prometeia... i will be buying the "Topless" version once they hit australian shelves......
I actually am building a vapochill based computer, which the GF4 Ti4600 is peltiered... you really need more than the average waterblock to cool the peltier down .. i only get ice on the rear of the card when the computer is turned off!!... otherwise, it is below room temp (the back of the card).... i may have to spray some waterproofing on the back, so they if i can get it cooler, it wont short out....
and with the ram... i think that design is great.. i just wish that you could buy the kit for it!!

remeber causticVapor, that if you have a Geforece 4 based card, the overclocking potential is not limited by heat.. it is actually voltage that gives you the not so high overclock... sure, you may be able to hit 350 MHz on air.. but using a peltier, may only get you 10 more MHz if you're lucky... the NV25 need Volt modding, and i suspect the R300's do aswell.:t

mmmm... I've considered it, but held back b/c I'm a bit leery on that kind of stuff... my soldering equipment is really old and doesn't have the precision necessary to make a fine solder on one of the VRAM pins f/i.... sure cooling only helps to a certain extent before voltage must be upped... too bad my mobo doesn't have that little jumper to up the AGP voltage :(
It makes sense that a .15-um core needs more voltage in order to achieve higher frequencies due to longer gate length etc... but...
I'm satisfied though ;) My card went from cooking to lukewarm :D and that's what really matters :D
Grentarc
11-29-2002, 03:04 AM
You can do it with blunt soldering irons, just you need pure copper wire (single strand) and shrink wrap to go over the wires. then you need precision potentiometres. To solder with a large soldering iron, heat only the wire, do not touch the IC legs... you would need a VERRY high wattage soldering iron to achieve this, as you need the wire to get up to solder melting temps, all the way down to the tip.. i have done it before, but theni bought an "el cheapo" soldering iron ($30 AU) with a super fine tip... 25watt, does the job well i must admit!:t

Ok, first nothing is V-modded yet (thats next) Going to do the GPU mod next day or two. Temps that I know of for sure are :
Water/antifreeze temp = 0 deg. F
Sensor on the back side of the Gpu (attached to the neoprene) was 44 deg. F
Also, I have a 5000 BTU/HR window air cond. blowing into side of case. Air temps 35-40 Deg. F
Before the pelt with modified heat sink on the GPU and the air cond. I could get only 370 out of my GPU. Ran the 17860 at 403Mhz no problem. I'm sure I can get more out of it. Especially with the V-mod.

You should try the Air cond. trick. I had a duct made for the back condensor area (Rectangular going into 6 in. start collar) and I am going to run the duct to outside incorporating a 6in. booster fan. For the front I had a duct made for 2 - 4in lines that I will run into my case. Right now I have a makeshift duct blowing in the side about even with vid card. I picked mine up at Home Depot for $115.00, and the duct fan is 150 cfm and it was about $15.00.

I'm actually waiting on prometeia's to hit australian shelves....
sounds like a good idea, with the air con... i was also thinking about using a solid state car fridge ... it uses peltiers for the cooling right? well, what if you strapped one to the side of your case (and cooled the case with big fans,) you would lower he mbient temp to the temp of a fridge - around 4°C or so.... just gotta buy a fridge...:D :t
NOHTO
12-06-2002, 08:50 AM
The problem with that would be the possibility of condensation forming on the sides of the case. With the air conditioner all the condensation gets removed by the coils of the air cond. After running it for about 15 hrs I had about 1 1/2 cups of water in the drain pan. Vegas has very low humidity so it isn't much of a problem, but with higher humidity levels it could definately be an issue. This site has a large variety of tecs, solid state cooling and mini air conditioners. Melcor (http://www.melcor.com/)

Go to www.driverheaven.net and look for better drivers they are out there.
My HP 6360 has onboard grafics and NO AGP slot, so it will not even run the 3D benchmark. Hey its workable for surfing, a good paperweight and even a conversation piece.
Good luck on your new machine! :)

You should be around 3200 with your set up. Try using 23.11 drivers to see if can improve your score.

Right here. (http://www.guru3d.com/files/) If this doesn't take you straight to the dl page, just find the nVidia drivers page and find any dang driver yer heart desires! .

My latest with the new Thermaltake Spark 7 HSF
I'm running the fan at 1/2 speed (nice and quiet) and it still cools better than any other of the HSF's I've tried. Though I will admit, MSI does have a problem with there temp. reading on there boards. With the Thermal Sensor attached under the Heatsink next to the CPU *using it to determine the Fan speed / Heat* the Bios shows 43c while the Sensor obviously thinks it's much cooler because it sets the fan to about 1800RPM's......

Only difference between your system and mine is the memory, I have ddr pc2100 as opposed to your 133mhz flavour. What version of drivers did you try?
www.guru3d.com has all of them, for your system I would recommend the 23.11 set. If that's what you have tried then it must be the memory that is holding you back, just find it hard to beleive the difference in scores,3200 as opposed to 1500, that's all.

Benchmarking threads should stay here, some times I guess they try to "level the playing field" but that's a poor idea that I hope has been abandoned. I look here to see if some one is doing a lot better with the same equipment, to keep up if I can (I can't). It's interesting. :) I'm about 6850 3D marks:(

moved to where?, "because it had so many posts", moved to the "very long thread" forum of course!! LOL.:D
Threads will only be moved if they don't stick to the original topic or don't have anything to do with the forum they are in originally. And as community posts don't count, most drivel usually ends up in there. Newbies, however, may post a hard drive question in the tech forum and get moved to the storage one where they will probably get more help, for example my friend.:-@

I guess that is ok.... :p
What you need to do is rig up another phase change cooler for the GPU, as i have seen a vapochill used for that purpose.... and i guess the 12v compressor is suited better to the heat output of a GPU rather than a CPU...... beats an 80 or 172watt peltier any day i would think.:t

Yeah I would like to go with a Vapo or similar for my GPU, but even I have a limit on funds available for pieces/parts. The pelt is a little ok a lot less expensive and it's easier to install. I would think hooking up direct die cooling to a vid card and trying to seal it would be a little more difficult than hooking it up to a CPU. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind giving it a shot.
