First-time buyer looking to buy above CPU (or K6-III+) new or used.
Only need the chip as I have a good HSF for it.

I live in Canada so I don't know how shipping/customs works or how most people handle cross-border sales. Any helpful info in this area appreciated.

Just upgraded from Socket 7/P233 MMX to Super Socket 7 board and itching to get a faster proc in this machine. :)

If you can't find the above CPUs, I would recommend trying the K6-2+. It's almost as fast as a 3/3+ and has the same overclocking potential as the 3+. Plus it's a lot easier to find. www.tigerdirect.com should still have them in stock.

That would be my second option if I can't find a K6-3. Several resellers in my area carry the K6-2 500/550.

Figured I'd throw my line in the pond and see if I could catch a K6-3 first while I still have the cash to spend.

If I do go for the K6-2 I should have enough left over for more ram too. :D

Thanks for the tip

Hi
I have a Epox MVP3G-M with 192MB of PC100 Ram. For processors for this board I have a K6-3(450Mhz) and a K6-2(400Mhz). Make me an offer by the way I live in the U.S.A so I have no idea how much shipping would be.

Your welcome!

BTW, did you mean your local resellers have the K6-2+ or the non-plus CPU? The K6-2+ CPUs have 128KB of L2 cache, while the non-plus CPU has none. Thanks to this, a K6-2+ 450 will run even faster than a K6-2 550. As an added bonus, the K6-2+ can often be overclocked to 550 or even 600.

Good Luck!

Thanks for pointing that out DanU. I'll have to check that out as none of the ads in the local Computer Paper or resellers websites specify, they just say "K6-2/500". I called a few of them and nobody has the 550.

Thanks for the offer Eldest_One but I don't need a new board (well, I do but can't afford it, lol). I'm really only looking for a used K6-III/450+ (because I can't find a new one). If I can't find a K6-III+ I'll just buy a new (never had silicone/pad/paste on it, etc.) K6-2/500. One place I called has the K6-2/500 (hopefully it's the + version) new for $59 Canadian.

Update:

Just bought a K6-III+ 450 and an EPox MVP3G5 (the 2 MB cache model) off a guy in town for $130.00. Didn't really need the board but he didn't want to sell them separately.

A new K6-III+ 400 normally goes for $129.00 here in Canada (if any resellers actually had one that is)... don't have a price on a 450 but probably close to $150.00.

I saved myself $20.00 and got a smokin' SS7 board (http://www.epox.com/html/english/products/motherboard/ep-mvp3g.htm) for free. Of course it's used gear but hey... it works :)

Thanks to all who replied and tried to help me out. Case solved.

(edit) Dammit... current board doesn't do v2.0 core. Good thing I got the MVP3G5. :D

Anyone have an ATX case with PSU for cheap?
