I've got a question relating to my problem with Diablo 2 in the gaming forum. See Diablo II Patch 1.09b problem... (http://www.sysopt.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=84879) thread.

I found the solution in another forum (http://www.opentechsupport.net/forums/showthread.php?threadid=3110). It suggested changing the CDROM drive from master to slave.

I did that and it works now. But it won't let me set the drive to run in DMA mode.

That's the setup, the question is how will this effect the performance of the CDROM drive? This is running in Win98SE. I only boot into this OS to play games. When I switch back to Win2k it allows it to run in DMA mode. Should I even care? When I am in Win98 I only use the CDROM to play games.

gyoung, not sure this will answer your question, but you might try this to get DMA mode back. First, check your BIOS to make sure it has the CD drive detected correctly. It probably does, but make sure. Usually the Auto or auto detect setting on its IDE channel is sufficient to get this done. Then go into "safe mode" and check device manager. Under CDRoms, you will probably find several entries of the same things, remove them all. While there, check all your other devices for phantom entries. If you find more, you will more than likely have to remove both duplicates to find the right one. No problem here, because Windows will re-detect and install them for you on a reboot. After rebooting, with any luck at all, you should be able to re-enable DMA on your CDRom drive. HTH
