I've got an old dual CPU P2-300Mhz "server" that I was wanting to use a to watch some DVD's on too... I've got a DVD drive for it and it is running a Matrox G200 Millenium PCI... however the G200 faq's say that they recommend running a P2-350Mhz minimum to have smooth video.

Jsut wondering if anybody knew of ANY apps out there that would use both CPU's and thus be able to run?

Or any other lower spec systems that are able to run DVD's... without Hollywood Plus or similar specialised hardware... as maybe winDVD 2000 v2.03 in win2000 SP2 isn't the most efficiant way of doing this?

An ATI video card with any chipset upwards of Rage Pro (XL will do to0) will provice motion compensation. If you go for a Rage Fury (or Fury Pro) you will get iDCT as well. Both are supported by WinDVD, but ATi's own DVD player is recommended with their hardware.

Rage PRO series can be had at ebay for $10-20 and the Rage FURY with another $20. But you can get a dedicated decoder with this money too.

But all of them are AGP.

EDIT: as far as I know no DVD player has SMP support (and I doubt it is feasible due to the nature of the decoding but don't quote me on this)

Have you actually tried playing a DVD with the current hardware? it may work.

I haven't seen any dvd software with SMP support but you just might try a Cinemaster version (preferably 99) or PowerDvd with your current set up and see if it runs well.!
