my friend set up an administrator password on my dell latitude cpx laptop. I cant figure it out ive tried just about every word i can think of and alot of other things too.
Is their a way i can remove it with the hardware or jumpers. Please let me know!

Have a look in your bios, it may be removable there??

You need the password to get into the bios

The only way I know to fix this is to pull out the CMOS battery, replace it reset you settings. Before you do this, ask your friend what the password is. Also try to call Dell.

Their is no cmos battery that i can find yet.
Keep in mind that it is a notebook

sounds like the proggy is doing a good job. if easily defeated wouldnt be much good. sounds like two choices "cause" your "friend" to cough up the p/w. or just lose whatever it is protecting.

Have you tried hitting CTRL+F4 at the password prompt?..then enter new password

Normally there are two pins you can jump to short the battery. They go into CMOS, select the setting defaults re restart.

Dell probably will require you to send it to them along with a tidy sum to resolve this one.

Some triva for you guys regarding BIOS password shorting...

At work one of older computers had a BIOS password on it that we needed cleared.. I was able to find a copy of the manual for it..

It was an IBM 55/SX 386-16 I believe..

Anyway to short the BIOS.. GET THIS
--------------------------------------------
1) Locate the PC Speaker connector on the motherboard.

2) Remove the PC Speaker connector and re-insert it in reverse. (so that the pin out would be inversed.

3) Reboot PC!

I was so amazed, I have never seen ANYTHING or ANY design where you would short the bios password by reversing the PC Speaker cable.. talk about security?? I guess no one would even think of that.. heh
