My pci radeon all in wonder is giving me serious problems, it will randomly lock up in win 98 OR 2000, when doing various things, especially moving a large file. I believe the problem is ATI's buggy drivers that they never update or fix. Here is the system

EPOX 8KTA3 mobo, VIA KT133A chipset
Athlon 850 tbird
256MEG Kingston PC133 RAM
ATI All in wonder Radeon PCI

I think the drivers don't get along with via chipsets... in that case I am screwed... I reinstalled windows 98se and 2000, still no better after a fresh install. everything works fine, the system will NOT freeze UNTILL I install the ATI drivers, then it goes amuck. I tried updated the via 4 in 1 drivers, no luck with them updated, or with them not updated. I flashed the BIOS successfully to a newer version, no luck.

Would the easiest way out of this be to buy a mobo that does NOT have a via chipset? If so, what would you guys recommend?

THanks for your help!

When you installed the VIA 4in1 drivers, did you install the AGP drivers too? Since you are using a PCI vid card, I would either not install the AGP and GART drivers, or install them in "normal" mode instead of "Turbo" mode.
Having AGP drivers installed with no AGP card may be causing conflicts when you install the drivers for the AIW.

The other option is to send that PCI Radeon AIW back, and get the AGP version, it'll be tons faster too!:D

PS - why does everyone complain about ATI having "buggy" drivers and they never update them. I bought my Radeon LE about 7 months ago and I've gone thru about 7 driver updates in that time, haven't had problems with any of them, just getting the new features.
