Hi!

Every time I am playing a game, ex. Diablo or anything else, after a while (varied from 5 min to 1 hour) my computer froze.

Even if I play a game on the Internet.

Can you help me please?

Thank You!

What kind of system do you have? Is the video card/cpu overclocked? Have you recently made changes to your PC?

Welcome to SysOpt !

Next time try telling us more info about your setup, it might not be the videocard.

If you want alternative drivers, try here (www.x3dfx.com) or here (http://www.geocities.com/xpentor/xpentor.html).

Best Regards ...

Welcome!

Might I suggest putting a fan onto the heatsink and trying that. I know I had to return my Voodoo3 (3000) cause it overheated and crashed on startup. couldn't be bothered to tinker with it. Try that and if it still hangs then you know its not the voodoo.

If it's the Voodoo card causing the problems:

The stock Voodoo 3 heat sink has a thin layer of metallic foil and sticky goop between it and the graphics chip- try removing the heatsink (squeeze the ends of the brass mounting posts together on the backside of the card & push them through the board) and scrape off all the foil/goop. It can be a bear to get the seal between the chip & heatsink broken, so be patient and work carefully. When you get them apart, apply a thin layer of good heatsink paste between the heatsink & chip and reassemble. I would then attach a fan as suggested by Infinitus, or mount a slot fan directly below the card to suck the heat away from it & blow it out the back of the case.

I did this a while back on my Voodoo 3 and not only was it more stable, but I was actually able to overclock it from 166 to 190MHz, where it ran fine for several years till I sold it.

Good luck ;)
