I am looking for an audio card primarily to transfer my "vinyl" (record) collection onto CD.

I am not a gamer, and do not need 3D surround sound from my computer, nor do a play DVDs on my computer.

Can anyone suggest good quality, hi-fidelity card for this application?

SoundBlaster Live! Value is a great sound card with high enough fidelity to capture your vinyl records.

You can usually find one of these in some incarnation (stay away from the Gold and Platinum versions, it's the same hardware with a different software bundle and more expensive!) at most e-tailers in the range of $30-50. For example, Access Micro has: http://www.accessmicro.com/productinfo.php3?ProductId=HDCLSBLIVE .

Another card that will do the trick for you is the Digital Research DRSOUNDPCI32: http://www.dr-tech.com/products/drsoundpci32.html
It's a real good card (uses the Yamaha chip!) and it's widely available (at most Staples) and it's cheap (around $35-50).

I have 12 systems and use both of the aforementioned cards!!

If you have the money to splurge, Soundblaster Live Platinum is kinda nice also. It has a input module that slides into your external bay for easy access to connect co-axial SPDIF, analog, and MIDI devices through the Live Drive's easy access front panel . We use one of those at work, and it' nice not having to reach to the back of your computer to plug in devices. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif But the Downside is the price, the price difference is rather big compared to the Soundblaster Value package! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif
