Cheaters at chess? Geez, what is this world coming to? I guess they feel insufficient in some areas that they need to cheat at chess. And I can't imagine that their opponents wouldn't pick up on it right away either.

Hmmm, this does beg the question.......
How do you cheat at chess?

Maybe a chess bot that plays for you :D
If you are interested in playing a little chess, Cabinetmaker and I run a little chess site.. Its small but nice folks. All levels of play.
Its like correspondence chess except the boards are up for all to see. They are cgi boards with a chat frame built into them so you can leave messages for your opponent or arrange a real time game and chat while playing:) It doesn't take lots of time to play this way as you log on make a move and then come back later to see if your opponent has moved..Most of us make a couple moves a day.
To get a game going just register to our UBB (message forum link) and leave a message in the "Want to Play" forum. Its that simple. Some one will take you up on a game and cab and I will assign you a board, often we will be playing two or three games at a time with different people. Read the "Chess Instructions" link for info on how to use the boards. Its really simple and no client to download.
Presently we are finishing up a tournement. We hold a couple a year. You can check out the games in progress.
Come in and look around, give it a try..Check out the chat room, there is usually someone in there every evening.

I see by your avatar that English may not be your first language..a vehicle doesn't necessarily mean a car..it is a means to an end..the medium so to speak. cgi is used all over the web..makes most sites work..I have java disabled..but..the point is..can you actually play the game?..I do..and I prefer to win..LOL

Gee KennyPolo when you posted this thread I was under the impression you wanted to play some chess.
If you can get over being a script snob maybe you and Smokin should meet on a board and we could all see who the smart boy is:)

I would still like to hear how you cheat at chess. I liked Dudsters idea of having a bot that plays for you, but unless you have deep blue at home, that might not help much. Games like chess and bridge are difficult to program AI for, as opposed to checkers or othello, where a computer can pretty much beat anyone.
On the other hand, I recently played an old chess game on my computer and got solidly defeated. But trust me, that is due to my lack of skill rather than the AI of the game. :)

cheating is pretty much having a bot for you, but you just have a program play for you.. i can beat some programs but it takes time
thats why when i play online i play either blitz or long games
the time settings i use are usually:
1 minute
2 minutes
30 minutes
1:40 minutes
depending on how serious the game is, i used to only play 1:40 but a lot of players complain saying you can't beat them in blitz so i adapted to blitz and switch back and forth ocassionally
Hey J.A.D.
Cheating at chess isn't like cheating at cards. Its mostly those who pretend they are playing a game but really using their computer to play for them.
People who do this are usually pretty easy to spot. Most of the chess programs out there can be beaten by good players. These programs have a limit on how many moves ahead they look or how many calculations they make, or how long the computer will "think" before moving. Most of them have a limit of 9 or so moves ahead at the advanced level of play. By playing positional strategies that require more moves than this to develope, most of the programs are defeated :) often using gambits of one kind or another.
There really isn't much point to this kind of cheating cause the fun part is playing the game. Those who indulge in it are all tied up with themselves and their ego's and make rather boring opponents.
Blitz is more difficult to "cheat" at because of the time limits. However a good deal of the time you arn't playing to win but rather to beat the clock by surviving the game til the flag falls. You will note that world championships are not decided by blitz matches. They are mostly a test of how many openings you have memorized. They are fun to play though. :) If you want to give it a try go to this link and click the "want to play a quick game link".

The way we have it set up at GMTA (Great Minds Think Alike) is for longer thoughtful games. Most take a week or two to play moving a couple of times a day. Which BTW is why we use the cgi boards, cause they work really well for this kind of play, and for others to observe and comment.
Give it a try...as I said before we have players of all levels..beginners to advanced and we will try to match you up with someone at your level if you want.:)

I enjoy www.Playsite.com A free site, and good java graphics.
I've been studying Nimzovich's "My System" and enjoy chess a great deal. I tried the "pay-to-play" sites but sometimes I go a few weeks without playing, so it's not worth it to me. I began a chess club in my town and enjoy face-to-face 3D chess best.

nimzo had a closed game style.. i usually don't like that.. 've seen a few of his games in books i remember reading that a lot of G<'s that played him were always confused they even thought that he was so confused he didn't know what he was doing
i usually play open games, i don't really have a style actually.. maybe you can say i play like tal, i play safe and wait for a mistake then start eating away
