robin801, I like HP and Plextor CD burners. I have a Plextor 12/10/32 (http://www.plextor.com/ENGLISH/PRODUCTS/12_10_32.HTML) burner in my 1ghz Athlon system that I like a lot. I also have a HP 9300 series 10x burner in my old P3 550mhz system that has never given me any problems. Be advised that the HP burners are grey and look a little funny in a beige case. :D

Plextors also use BURN-Proof to keep you from making coasters. HP does not do this, but I can only assume they don't because they found it to be unnecessary. Also, I do not much care for the software that comes with HP's... too userfriendly. I would recommend using EZ CD creator or Nero for whatever you end up with.

I'm not sure if the full 80 minutes is a function of the drive, software, or combination of the two. My trusty Mitsumi 4x drive w/Adpatec EZ CD Creator 4.03 will only burn 74 minutes, I think. Regardless of disc used.

You might want to look at a liteon also. My brother 12-10-32 Liteon, and he loves it . I think it is burnproof.

If budget is not a problem, I'd go with Plextor. Absolutely the best. Otherwise, HP are OK too.

Sony and TDK make the BEST CDRW's in my opinion

they aren't complicated when it comes to reading the file

I have had my hp cdr model 9100. It runs 80 min cd's no problem. But make sure you restart after install drivers for it or it will ruin all cd's you put in it till you restart. Its very stable on my 1.4ghz athlon. I like my HP consider getting one. Have fun good luck

TDK is cheaper than Plextor and comes with better software

I have a Yamaha 4416s and have no problems burning 74 or 80 minute CDs. The only trouble I had was after installing EZ CD Creator 5.0 Platinum on a Win2K platform. Found out about the patch later for Take Two software included. Still had problems with my system, able to burn 1 CD then needed a reboot. Uninstalled the Take Two software and haven't had a problem since. Also can burn an 80 minute CD's on my laptop with EZ CD 4.02d.

If your looking at at 24x burner lite-on or tdk is the way to go.

On the other hand if you're interesting in the a 16x or 12x plextor would be an excellent choice

nah for a 16x tdk is prob the best

for 24x id say lite-on sony or tdk, i dont think tdk makes many 24x models though

yamaha isnt very good when it comes to burners.. i know a few people who have purchased yamaha because of the nice price tag on it.. but it ended up being a piece of $#!^

none of them had the burner for over a year and they already had probs with it burning cd's

Glad to be of service.

Don't love it too much. It'll become attached and grow jealous when your heart fancies faster and more powerful CDRW drives. Then it'll start acting up just to spite you. ;)

i remember a friend of mine bought a few things at a comp show about 2 yrs ago.. turned out most of his stuff were bad items

did you make sure they were in sealed boxes?

KennyPolo

I have a yamaha 20x burner and its been great. It has burn proof technology, so you'd have to try really hard to make a coaster. TDK and Plextor as mentioned above are also among the best.

I would HIGHLY recommend against using Adeptec software. Nero is great, CDRWIN is another good program. For protected software, CloneCD is the way to go.

i bought all the componets for my first computer from a computer show. i got a bad deal on the cd rom. otherwise i have not had any problems with the things that i have bought.

i installed the cdrw and it is working perfectly.

i haven't tried any 80 minute cdr only 74 no coaster yet.

it came in a sealed box.
