What are the cons of owning a computer?

I have a friend who owns WebTV. In order to convince him why computers are better, I need to know why people like him wouldn't like computers.

Moved to General Tech have you now ablang? http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Anyways, computers often crash, always have problems, are expensive to upgrade, are complicated and WebTV is very simple to use, and is very user friednly, unlike a computer.

If you have no need for all the bells and whistles that you get with a PC now, and all you really want to be able to do is browse the web and send/receive e-mail, webTV isn't a bad idea at all.

tantone is right, if that is all you are going to do webTV is not to bad. But take me for example, my computer is doing the job of all of my entertainment equipment in my room. Game system, TV, DVD Player, Stereo. I dont play N64 or PSX as much anymore because I use my computer for games now, got TV card so I can work and watch TV and the same time, and I have better speakers on my computer than my stereo. It all depends what you are going to use it for.

Well - to some people it is to big a mouthfull - very hard to get into if u know what i mean. OS'es are getting more userfreindly though - so he/she might have a chance... computers are generally something u skould start with while youre young and naive... not noticing the immense work and gahtering of expirience one will have to do...

On the good side... you're never bored!

Why do you keep posting topics like this? I was told not to post my story thread in the community forum, because the forum was a place for "items a bit more educational." I think the same would apply to the General Discussion as well, not to mention you were the reason the post count was disabled in the SysCom forum in the first place.

Trust me, once you're "blacklisted" by the mods (MntSnow, SysOpt) and most the board members, you might as well leave, because you can forget about getting any kind of help or advice, reguardless of what you did.

Take the advice from someone who knows. To every good, there's a bad. Most of the members and mods here can be the best help you'll find anywhere, but step outside their boundaries once... it's curtains. Just post a few "MY CPU IS OVERHEATING... HELP!" topics to get things back in line. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Oh yeah, and to answer the question: The only con to having a computer is having the internet, to view this message board, to feel you have to post a reply like I did, to a bunch of people I'll probably never meet in real life. ::sigh:: oh well, gotta download some more warez over the LAN http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif j/k
