hmm, I have a small question.

I have 1 HDD - WD40gb ATA-100, 7200rpm
A burner - Samsung 16x10 (CD-R / CD-RW)
A DVD-ROM - Pioneer 105s

My question is, how should I setup the drives.

I currently have the HDD as a primary master.
DVD is secondary master
CD-R is secondary slave

I'm thinking of having the DVD as a slave, and the CD-R as a master, but I watch a lot of DVD's, and don't want it to start stuttering.

Now, my problem is that while burning CD's, I can't listen to MP3's or do pretty much anything, whereas I could previously at least listen to MP3's while burning with the old Sony 4x

The samsung burner has Just Link, and Just Speed, and i'm not sure if they're slowing my PC down, or if having the burner as a slave is the problem.
This is really annoying me, as I ONLY bought this, so I could use my PC while I burn CD's, and now I am even more restricted!

My PC is an Abit KG7 w/ athlon 1.4 running win2k w/sp2
I'm using Nero 5.5.18 (currently downloading 5540)

Please help, this is really annoying.

Pat.

You should not have burner and CD(DVD) on same bus this might create bottleneck when copying music CD, burner should be secondary master for best result.
My rig: C=primary master
Burner=secondary master
DVD=primary slave
Backup drive secondary slave.

make sure you have audio cables going to the sound card for the dvd and the cdr if you want sound from both of them.
ive had my creative 6x dvd and my sony crx140 cdrw on the same ide cable for a long time. even though nero warns you when you do a cd to cd copy, it always worked without a problem.

how i have it setup. First ide controller: WD 40g master
WD 13G slave

Secondary ide controller: Creative dvd: master
Sony cdrw : slave
good luck.

Thanks for the tips,

I've just made my DVD sec slave, and the burner sec master.
I'm about to test it now.
If that don't work, then i'll try:

HDD prim master
DVD prim slave
CD-R sec master

I'll let you all know.

Cheers,

Pat.

OK,

I'm listening to mp3's, burning and typing this at the same time, although it still seems rather slow.
Everything is not running smooth at all.

CPU usage is at 91% according to win2k

I'm sure my mates computer ran better, and that's a duron 800 on a kt7a, i'm running the same pc, except an athlon 1.4 on a kg7.
(and i have ddr ram, both have 512mb)

perhaps my hdd is not setup correctly?
Also, i haven't seen anything regrading DMA in win2k, maybe that is off??

It's better, but not up to what I expect?
Any more tips? Or am I expecting too much?

sd willie, you have the dvd as the master?? acccording to manual i got with burner,it says use burner as master and other (dvd/cdrom) as slave. will it work b etter the way you ha ve it set up? also, you mentioned you burn directly from disc to disc with no problems?? i havent tried that yet,but will real soon.this is the way i have mine set up: 6g hd master with 30 g slave on one cable; cdrw master and cdrom slave on other cable. works good so far...
