I worked on a PC that has a 450Mhz cpu, 64MB or Ram, Amptron on board video, sound, nic, and modem. It has a 8GB Maxtor Harddrive and this thing boots faster than my ABit VT6X4 128MB RAM, 733 CPU, 20GB Maxtor Harddrive. And I don't have as much data on my system has the other one. As a matter of fact my brother in laws PC I built for him boots faster than mine and its a AMD 400Mhz. Can anyone tell me what's going on? This has really got me baffled!!

Well for the most part I will say it's due to the amount of applications that are automatically initalizing when booting. Also the way the network configurations are set will effect how fast they are able to boot up as well http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Once you have them exactly configured I would suspect that the boot times would be much different than they are now. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

That and what OS and version are you running. Also, what BIOS and version.
Also, what peripherals does each box have, as those drivers have to be loaded. Also, if you noticed, there are a lot of alsos as many factors determine boot times.
For fun, why don't you race to shutdown.

Win98 takes longer than win95 to me, so that may also be a factor.

Well my machine in win98 booted like a big bag full of a whole lotta pants, I solved the problem by going into msconfig and having a little tinkle and removing half the startup programs cut my boot up time emmensly. Also I think the TCP/IP settings on your nic and effect you boot up time greatly, but I could not tell you the best settings.
