I have a LAN with one of the machine dialing up to one of them free ISPs...I use Avirt Soho as the gateway for the second machine to connect. Now the max speeds that I get is 45kbps....but wanna speed up the surfing speed on the second machine.

Now would speeding up the the network speed help ... I mean maybe getting 10/100 mbps cards ..as I have 10Mbps cards now...

Thanks for any suggestions

No. Nothing your connection is bringing down is coming close by a long shot to tax that 10MB(it is 10megabyte and not 10megabit isn't it?) ethernet card.

10 megabyte??? eh what, I though all network cards were either 10 megabit, 100 megabit or the newest ones 1000 megabit. 10 megabyte, now that is news to me. Anyway even if it is 10megabit, the speed of a dial up connect isn't going to come close to a 10megabit network.
gypsyking anyway if your on dial up the maximum your goning to get is 56kbps download and a little less on upload. What speed do you get on the machine which has the dailup?? The only thing I can suggest is running one of those programs like internet boost or something.

But you are looking at this the wrong way round, its not your network it is your dial up connection

Yep..thier all in megaBITS
and a Byte is 8 bits
mbps and kbps is almost always megabits or kilobits per second
k/s is always kiloBYTES per second.
so your 56kpbs modem, which connects at 45kpbs, can get 45/8 or 5.625 k/s max uncompressed. The NIC between the two computers can transmit data between the two machines at up to 10mpbs or 100mpbs, depending on the NICs, but the data is still flowing in at only 45kpbs.

I cant seem to find where exactly I mentioned Megabytes....Anyways thanks for the replies....yeah it does make some sense now...though I dunno why I dont sometimes think logically...

So its these speeds for me then....cant get either DSL right now...dont want to sign any contracts....
