sorry for asking another "what should i get" question...but this time i have to build another comp for another friend...
budget is around $600 w/o monitor.
system is mostly gonna be used for word processing and internet and a maybe some occasional gaming. i have an idea of what i should get for him...but i wanna hear some other suggestions...
also, where should i buy? what are some good places online to buy from?

You won't need a powerful system for running office applications. and since you won't be using this system for hardcore 3-D games, you won't need a fast processor or a fast graphics card.

Why not stick in the 450-500 Mhz range for processor? Wouldn't a k62 based system knock a few dollars off that price? That seems like more then enough speed for what the intended use of this box will be.
Yeah, but why not get a processor that is more up to date for that price you mentioned above for the long run?
I mean, if you look at it the way Gomer says, I think you could get away with a P2 233Mhz and still have plenty of power for word processing and non-serious gaming.
