cdrw won't close

i was trying to make a cdr from the file i copied to my hard drive.

i was using ez creator 5.

after making the cd i tried to play it in musicmatch but it wouldn't play.

after i hit the eject button and removed the cd, the drawer would not close.

i restarted the system a few times and it will not stay shut.

philips cdrw(8/4/32) i think. the one that was on sale at best buys not to long ago.

I do apologize, robin, I didn't even see this one. I feel like a dolt. But I do have a question for you: When you press the eject button at each position (open and "closed"), does the tray move as you would expect it to? There isn't any grinding is there?

Is it going almost all the way shut, but stopping when the faceplate comes in contact with the drive? If so, you might just need to reposition it. Happened to me once, I fiddled with it till I could force it in without being excessive. I certainly hope it isn't a problem with the way the tray sits on the track to move. If it looks lopsided, that may be the case. It seems that it's just a mechanical problem. I hope it is one that can be solved by just popping something back into place. Otherwise, it may be warranty time. :(

I have the same exact drive and I have been coming to the conclusion recently that mine is dying because it likes to open and close like 3 or 4 times whenever I insert a CD. ( I have to tell it to close each time) Sometimes it gets 'STUCK' open.. Then I push the tray in manually and reboot and it'll work perfectly fine for about two hours and then start this **** all over.. I have already tried moving it to different IDE postions, Tryin a fresh insall of ATAPI Drivers and Removing it from device manager and reloading it.. Nohing seems to help.. I think this one is ready for an RMA... Sounds like we both are havin the same probs.... BTW I got mine @ best buy too....

it goes all the way in and right back out again.

i have tried everything i could think of to fix this problem.

just finished talking to tech support and they told me to box it up and send it to them and they are going to send me a replacement.

hope it doesn't take to long. the tech guy said about 2 weeks. but i know better.
