My friend told me today, that he wanted me to design him a computer. I thought, sure, about 1500 bucks, and I could get ya a nice 'puter. But NOOOOO, he just HAD to say that his budget is 3000 DOLLARS!!!!!!! WOW! I almost fainted!

Here is what I figgured out, please tell me if there is anything I can change. Note: these are Canadian Dollars here.....

Asus A7V W/Out Audio Motherboard
AMD ThunderBird 1GHz CPU
Asus 10X DVD Drive
Plextor 8X4X32 CDRW Drive
ASTON 56X CDROM
128MB PC133 Ram
Creative GeForce 2 GTS 64M Video
Maxtor 30.7GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
USR 56K Modem
Proview 19" Monitor
MS Intellimouse w/Intellieye
Sound Blaster Live!
Win98 Keyboard
Full Tower 24" Case w/300W PS
GlobalWin Socket A Heatsink/Fan.
---------------------------
$3003

I am kinda worried about having this kickass system, but only 128MB Ram. What can I cut out/downgrade to get 256, if it is needed?

thanks for any input!!

MTP, I haven't heard much about the 1GIG Thunderbirds overclocking much. I think the maximum speed for the current Thunderbirds is roughly around 1.1 Gig; that's not to say AMD won't release higher Thunderbirds than this thou!

That sounds like a very nice system indeed. I hope everything goes to plan and wish you luck.

i would lose the 52 x cd rom and move down to a 850 and just overclock it to a Gig may be you will get real lucky and get 1100 mhz out of it then with the money saved get one more stick of 128 megs of ram then he will be set and realy no need for 3 cd any way

I would step down a bit on the processor and get him a Burnproof 12X CDRW. I don't see a need for a CDROM when you have a DVD and CDRW too.

I talked to him today, and he actually said that he doesn't want the DVD. I am gonna keep the CDROM and the CDRW, and get him 256MB of ram, and a TBid 900, and overclock it to a gig or more......

I haven't heard anything about a 12/10/xx SCSI Plextor as of yet.
