I just got a new 20gig 7200 harddrive for extra storage space and had some questions regarding partitioning and performance.

I have a 8 gig now and at one time was running windows 95 so its partitioned in to 4 sections. I am now running Win2k pro, so do I still need to have 2gig partitions with my new 20gig HD or can I make it 4 5gig partitions or can I just have 1 20 gig partition?

Second question, This is regarding performance, If I can make it just 1 20gig partiton will it run slower as it gets filled vs 4 partions of 5gigs spliting up the data?

Thanks!

I would say having the hard disk partitioned would be a better choice. This way, you can have your saved data consolidated to a dedicated partition. This way, you won't have to worry about moving the data you want to keep if you ever need to format the hard disk to reinstall the OS....
